The BearHands Chinstrap hat is made of the same thick fleece as the BearHands mittens. The band that goes around the chin and the ear area is doubled up for extra warmth and comfort. The top of the hat has a subtle abstract “bear ear” shape to it that gives it character, and an embroidered “bear paw” design in the center.

WARMTH

The single layer of fleece at the top does an excellent job of keeping my son’s head warm in sub-freezing weather with gusts of wind. The double-layer area over the ears is a stroke of genius as it keeps your child’s small quick-to-freeze ears extra warm.

COMFORT

The extra warm double layer around the bottom of the hat and the chinstrap serves a dual purpose of keeping your child warmer while also protecting sensitive skin from seams that would usually be exposed. The bear paw embroidery is backed to keep it from being irritating, and the fleece chin strap is soft and stretchy enough to allow it to be snug without being uncomfortable.

EASE OF USE

Pull it on, pull the straps down, and pinch the velcro together and you’re good to go. No buttons or snaps to fiddle with, and no overly-tight ski-cap designs to force down over a fidgety toddler’s head. It doesn’t get easier than this.

COLORS

The hats come in the same rainbow of colors offered in the infant/toddler mittens. You can mix and match or choose matching colors.

CARE

Hand-washing, air-drying is probably the best bet for keeping this hat in the best of shape. It’s small enough and the fleece dries quickly enough that it’s not as much of a pain as hand washing can sometimes be.

BOTTOM LINE

I picked this hat up along with the “Bear Hands” mittens, and ended up liking it just as much and even more. It’s comfortable, simple, and unbearably cute as well as affordable. I also like that it’s stretchy enough to fit over my own head- something that bodes well for continued use over the years as my son gets older. As with the mittens the bottom line is “I love it”.
