The KozyRoo Bunting bag is a universal (infant, toddler, preschooler) bunting bag that fits 3- and 5-point harnesses and convertible car seats. It is made of thick high quality corduroy, anti-pill fleece, and batting. It has full-length zippers and the top portion can be fully de-attached from the bottom. It also allows the bottom to be unzipped for slushy boots (or for on-the-fly diaper changes). It’s made by a small Canadian mom-owned company.
EASE OF USE
I’ll cover the ease of use first, as this was my major complaint with a number of the other bunting bags that I tried out. Even the more simple designs can sometimes hide some “ease of use” issues. Some bunting bags, for example, don’t unzip all the way down and you have to cram your (frequently unwilling) toddler’s feet into the bottom of the bag before zipping. Moms of toddlers can guess how successful that endeavor is. The KozyRoo is simplicity in itself. It has two large heavy-duty two-way zippers that go down the outside of the bunting. They open either from the top to the bottom, or the bottom to the top (handy for uncovering slushy boots or for impromptu diaper changes). Added bonus: You can completely remove the top of the bunting bag to uncover a napping baby. AND the top zips back on without a fight. Our nanny regularly chooses to use this bunting bag rather than one of the other two that we have.
STYLE
The KozyRoo bunting has a unique country-like charm with its corduroy fabric and decorative contrast-stitching around the pocket. It has a very plush, comfortable at-home look to it. The ribbon that ties around the back of the stroller is a cute touch.
QUALITY
The quality of the corduroy is very high. It is thick, flexible and soft. The fleece is a dense anti-pill fleece that holds up well against stains and grime. The most fragile part of the bunting is probably the ribbon that ties around the back- but even this is thick and well made and sewn on very well. Even after quite a bit of use and abuse it doesn’t show any signs of pulling off or becoming disheveled with use. The zipper is one of the highest quality zippers I’ve seen on a bunting bag- it is very rugged and the teeth are huge. It practically “rumbles” shut. I have no worries about it breaking or pulling loose!
SAFETY
The KozyRoo bunting pouch is made of flame retardant corduroy and fleece for safety. One thing that I would note about this bunting is that it ties onto the back of the stroller with a ribbon which could be a strangulation hazard. However, since strollers pose a long list of safety hazards to children it’s generally a bad idea to allow them to play with the stroller with or without supervision. So I can’t really hold this one point against this bunting.
WARMTH
The fleece, batting, and corduroy are quite warm. The whole bunting is very thick and dense. This bunting does not have a hooded attachment so it’s less of an “arctic blast” bunting than some. However, it is warmer than the JJCole BundleMe which is another popular bunting bag on the market.
UNIQUE FEATURES
The ease of which the bottom of this cover unzips and folds back allows you to change your child’s diaper without removing them from the bunting bag or stroller. (Simply unzip the bottom, undo the harness, and change the diaper.) I have also used the “Bundle Me” from JJCole and 7AM Enfant’s b212e, and neither are as easy to open up from the bottom (if they open up from the bottom at all.)
MINOR NITPICKS
Almost every product has a “thing I would change”. The only one I can think of when it comes to the KozyRoo is I’d add some sort of toggle-and-loop attachment to the side of the bunting so that I could fold down the part of the bag that rests above the zippers, and toggle it in place. Otherwise I find that it sometimes blows up to cover my child’s face. It’s only done this one or two times, though, so it’s not a major wishlist item.
CONCLUSION
This bunting bag does a great job of being one of the warmer bunting bags on the market while offering all the simplicity of “zip up and go”. It holds up very well to a variety of weather conditions and washing, and is made of very high quality materials. I like it quite a bit and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a warm bunting bag that “just works”.
