November’s here, things are chilly but still manageable as things don’t get *seriously* cold until December. Still, it can be in the 40’s when we crawl out of bed, the 60’s by noon, and then back into the 40’s or even 30’s by the time we’re ready for bed again. What’s a mom to do?
The “Louis Jacket” by Georgie World is a funky super-soft 100% cotton pint sized take on the Lumberjack jacket that is a perfect layering item for this crazy weather that vacillates between beautiful and cold.
MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION
This adorable little plaid jacket is super-soft washed blue/tan plaid on the outside, and has a smooth navy blue fleece on the inside. The tailoring of the jacket is perfect. The seams are reinforced and soft to touch, with an extra seam across the back where jackets of this sort are most likely to rip after years of use.
The zipper is dark navy blue and is very rugged with wide teeth and a a cool clunky zipper pull. This is one zipper that won’t break easily. The only slight complaint is that it is somewhat prone to catching on the fabric of the jacket, making it so that your little boy might have a hard time taking it off on his own. Of course, if your son is anything like mine, this is more of a plus than a minus. Despite it catching on the fabric a few times it has never become stuck or damaged the fabric, so this is a very minor issue.
The left breast has a small pocket with a black snap closure. It’s the perfect size for stashing a little toy car or a fistful of tissues.
The best part of this jacket (other than it’s incredible softness) is that the sleeves are broad enough to allow your child to wear a heavy sweater underneath without looking like he is attempting to re-enact that famous scene from “A Christmas Story”. You know the one where the younger brother is so tightly stuffed into his snowsuit that he can’t put his arms down and can barely waddle around.
SIZING
This jacket comes in boy’s sizes 2T-6 is on the slightly smaller side of average for its sizing which puts it right in line with the sizing for most designer lines. My son wears a size 2T, but we got this jacket in 3T so that we could be sure that it will still fit in the spring. This jacket is an ideal multi-season jacket. The soft fabric is perfect for cuffing, and when it’s slightly oversized it’s nothing short of adorable.
CARE
The plaid pattern and the colors used makes this jacket excellent at resisting many common stains of childhood. Washing is easy as the only requirement that this jacket has is “do not bleach”. I simply machine wash warm, tumble dry on low the same as all of my son’s clothes. This jacket washes very well and becomes softer with each wash. The seams stay strong, shrinkage was minimal if any occurred, and the jacket didn’t pill or fade.
BOTTOM LINE
This jacket is wonderfully comfortable and non-restrictive, with plenty of room underneath for layering. The lumberjack style is trendy enough for urban use, but practical enough for your little boy to wear while helping dad out aroud the yard.
