I remember it well. The early days with my first child who was born in the middle of winter. We had a rain cover that would block most of the wind, but it always fell out of place and it looked like we had hermetically sealed our infant into a bubble. The only alternative was a blanket that would quickly blow off, and that didn’t allow us a firm hold on the car seat handle.

STYLE/AESTHETIC/OPTIONS

If the little car is too cutesy for your taste, BabbaCover comes in a variety of trendy fashion prints. They also come in a variety of densities from “super warm” snuggle fleece such as the Beep Beep cover, a “lightweight” option for chilly nights, and an airy cotton summer version.

QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION

The outer layer of this cover is made of a dense high quality fleece. The inside is lined with a thin, soft cotton fabric that feels and looks like muslin. Details are made of the same fleece in different colors, and sewn into place. Elastic gathers hold the front and rear to the car seat while leaving the sides loose and open to allow air circulation. The top of it has an elastic handle area. This does not go down over the handle, rather it simply allows you to stick your hand in and grab the handle. This keeps the cover up and away from your baby.

The density of the fabric allows it to keep its shape rather than draping too closely to the car seat, and unlike blankets there’s no risk of this cover falling onto your baby.

The “windshield” and “back window” of the little beep-beep car are actually flaps that you can roll up and attach to a button on the cover. This allows your child to look out the windshield, or mom can look in over the top to check on baby. There is no plastic shield under the flaps, so these can also be used to give your little one a bit of extra air and light or to open them up while indoors while still keeping them mostly shielded. The BabbaCo logo appears on both front and rear windows in the form of a small tag.

Under the rear window there is a larger area that has the BabbaCo name, logo, and “by Jesica Kim” embroidered onto it.

There are two large pockets, one on each side of the Babbacover which can be used to tote diapers or keep pacifiers, burp cloths and other baby essentials within easy reach. These pockets have velcro closures at the top that help keep your items in place.

COMPATIBILITY

This cover works with any infant carseat that has a handle. It seems to be universally compatible with infant carseats. We tested it out on Chicco and Graco infant seats.

CARE

The care instructions are simple: Machine wash cold, inside out. Tumble-dry low, remove promptly. The cover is made of a polyester fleece shell and 100% cotton liner. Make sure you follow the advice and remove the cover from the drier as soon as the cycle is over, otherwise the liner is prone to wrinkles. A quick two minutes in the drier will cure any wrinkles, of course.

BOTTOM LINE

This review was originally scheduled to run weeks ago. Unfortunately my eldest child came down with a bout of RSV that landed us in the emergency room. Fortunately my three month old, who had to come with us, was well shielded in her carseat with a BeepBeep cover.

I love that this cover is free of plastics and PVC. It’s snuggly and warm and it cuts the chill much better than the plastic rain covers that most people end up using, without posing the potential risks of blankets. The pockets are handy and the design is adorable.

I’d love to see this cover offered in some solid colors as well as the fun fashionable ones, as it would be great to have two covers: a solid one for every-day use, and a more fun one for special occasions.
