Polliwalks “Fireflies” sandals are basically the clog version of the “Light up sneaker”. Every time your child takes a step, the firefly’s tail lights up.

FEATURES

These little clogs have the same fun footprinter bottom as other shoes in the Polliwalks line, although while the footprint left by this shoe is definitely bug-inspired, it’s not quite as much fun as some of the ones on other polliwalks shoes.

The defining feature of the Fire Fly shoe, though, is the flashing firefly light at the back of the shoe. This little green light flashes yellow and red when your child’s feet hit the ground, making them a great option for a night-time shoe during the summer.

AESTHETIC

These shoes are a highly stylized rendition of a firefly. Two expressive over-sided eyes at the front give the shoes a lot of character, and the cutout vents at the front imply an upturned smile. The antennas are terribly cute little things whose spacing and curvature are charming. The rear strap is reminiscent of wings, tapering toward where the sides meet at the middle, and patterned with a honeycomb pattern.  They come in a variety of colors. Orange and black, Navy and neon orange, bright pinks and purples.. Something for everyone.

QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION

The Fire Fly clogs are made of the same closed-cell foam that is used in all the other shoes in the Polliwalks line. There are a few differences with these clogs, though. The main difference is a protrusion of about 1″ off the back of the shoe. This has a rigid green plastic “firefly light” that is shaped a bit like those Christmas tree bulbs. When your child walks, this lights up in bright shades of yellow and red that sort of strobe like a police car’s lights. Definitely fun. One thing to note is that when these shoes first arrived, one of the lights did not work. I twisted it a few times and pressed down on it, and it started to work again. The firefly flashing bit extends the shoe a bit and makes your child’s feet longer. This does not seem to phase most kids.

Another unique feature of these clogs is the two antenna that poke out of the top of the shoe. These antenna are made of soft flexible rubber and flare out to rounded nubbins at the tips.  These go through two holes in the shoe and are connected to a thin “figure 8″ shape of the same material. This is inset in the roof of the shoe. These antenna are pretty hard to pull off, and my two year old has tried to bite them off on a few occasions.

The Fire Fly clogs have fewer drainage holes, as they are not intended to be used in the water. Instead, two mushroom-shaped holes form the corners of the firefly’s wide grin, and provide ventillation for your child’s sweaty little toes.  They have the same  thick contoured sole which supports and protects your child’s foot. The sole wraps all the way around the child’s foot to cup the heel, giving it a better fit and making it more stable. The heel strap has the same no-pinch joint that rotates on the outside of the shoe but that has a white end-cap on the inside of the shoe that does not move, which prevents chafing common to other brands of clog.

The shoes “eyes” are the largest eyes of the Polliwalks lineup so far, and have a bit of a comical shocked expression. Cute. They are the same “white highlight on black pupil on white eye” style as the rest of the Polliwalks line, and have a shiny surface that resists scratching well.

EASE OF CARE

Because of the flashing light, I would not put these shoes into the washing machine the way you can with other polliwalks clogs. However, these shoes are very easy to care for- you simply wipe them off with a damp rag.

SIZING

The sizing of the Firefly clogs seem to be about average compared with other shoes of their size range.

BOTTOM LINE

While my son loves the flashing fire fly tail, I am not as big of a fan of the design of these shoes as I am of some of the others in the Polliwalks line. (Although these are awesome shoes, there are some even-more awesome Polliwalks.. It must be hard for a company to be in competition with themselves!) That said, I am sure to decide that these are my favorite shoes come summer when my little escape artist darts away from me in the dark. Light-up shoes are popular for a reason, afterall!

These are my favorites. I was so excited when I saw they had come out with the firefly shoes because they’re SO cute. I usually try to stick with gender neutral ’cause I have girls and boys, but screw that. I love the bubblegum/fuscia fireflies. They’re adorable and I know my daughters would get a kick out of the fact that they light up. That’s always good. It’s easier to find them when we’re out at night. These are so cute and so different from the clogs you find in the stores. I’m a sucker for a “different” shoe.

And THANK YOU for the bit on how sizes run. I always worry about then when ordering online. I never know if the sizes run big/small/average and that can be a big problem.

The black and white penguin boots are adorable! They look so much better than the boots we get for Rowan all the time, especially since they have the removal faux-fleece liner – what a good idea! He wears his boots until they’re literally falling apart, and unfortunately, we get what we pay for and they don’t even last a year, hah.

They are so cute! I love the frog style, which is perfect becuase we call little man our frog because he does not walk he basically bounces or hops every where..typical boy with a ton of energy. The penguin boots are also very cute, they would be great for playing otdoors in the spring.

I really like the Frog sandals. I have never seen these before and they are too cute. These would look great on my son and we are headed to the beach in a couple of months and I think they would be perfect for him to wear at the beach in the sand or just by the pool. My son would definetely love them

i entered the Fish lips giveaway too…so i have my fingers crossed. :) Extremely hard to chose a favorite, but i love the fireflies in the turquoise/raspberry for my daughter. i think my son would get a kick out of the gators…and honestly the fish lips creep me out a bit. :) My daughter’s slide on sandals won’t fit this spring, so she’s definitely due for another pair. Thanks for the great giveaway!.

I would probably choose the puppy furry clog in navy (size 1) because my son is obsessed with dogs. He drags his stuffed animal dogs all over the house, lines them up to watch TV, takes them on car rides, calls them his other pets. . . he just loves dogs!

The Fireflies are pretty awesome, but you’re right, there are even more awesome Polliwalks available! The black and white Penguin boots are SOOO super cute — I love the footprints they make and I’m getting all excited just envisioning them on my little guy’s feet, splashing around in the mud! The Fish Lips are probably my next favorite — gotta love the fact that they change color in the sun!
