Winslow Farm  in Norton Massachusetts is more like something out of a children’s movie than anything that one would imagine could exist in real life. Multiple species live side by side on this meticulously maintained and beautiful farm run by founder Debra White and a wonderful volunteer staff.

FEATURES

Not just another glorified petting zoo, this Animal Sanctuary has worked hard to earn its title. Winslow Farm rescues hard luck animals, and many of its rescues have amazing and touching stories where a lifetime of neglect and abuse carry a beautiful animal to near death only to be rescued and transported into a place that is truly a haven for animals and humans alike. One animal was abandoned for dead after being mauled by a neighborhood dog, and was rescued and rehabilitated by Winslow Farm. Another animal suffered such extreme neglect that his hooves curved under like skies forcing him to hobble around painfully. These animals are among the pampered and beloved permanent residents of Winslow Farm, and make up only a fraction of the farm’s collective story. A bit heavy for your child to handle? Don’t worry, these stories aren’t something your child will come across. A younger child will simply experience Winslow Farm as a peaceful harmonious magical place.

In addition to “petting zoo” fare, Winslow has a number of special features including educational programs, summer day camp, birthday parties, and a dizzying array of events.

Educational Programs & Day Camp: During the summer months Winslow Farm runs a day camp called “Green Sprouts” for children between the ages of 9 and 13. Kids get to help with the farm chores, learn how to groom the animals, explore the Winslow Farm nature trail, plant seeds in the garden, learn how to make a positive difference in our environment, and more.

Birthday Parties: are popular with children and include using the picnic area near the campfire, a personal tour of the farm and introduction to the animals.

Events: Psychic fairs, Renaissance fairs, wizards, fortune telling, haunted houses, and a rustic old-fashioned Father Christmas… With the dizzying array of events hosted at Winslow year round, you’ll find plenty to tickle your fancy and keep you coming back. Even if you end up coming on just an average ordinary day, the farm has a unqiue mystical peace about it that you will find soothes your soul.

Pony Rides: are offered during events when there are enough staff on hand, and as long as the animals are open to it. (At Winslow respect for the animals comes before all else.)

SAFETY

All of the animals at Winslow are exceedingly sweet, but you’ll want to keep your little ones in check both for their safety and for the safety of the animals at Winslow.

BOTTOM LINE

Winslow Farm is worth going a bit out of your way for if you’re in Southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode island or the surrounding areas. It is a truly unique feel-good experience where your children can witness many different species living together in ethereal harmony. The lessons learned at Winslow are something that hits you soul-deep and you walk away truly believing that there can be peace on Earth.
