Miracles of the Bible is an accurate and simple illustrated depiction of many of the miracles God performed in the Old Testament of the Bible. The book includes:
Creation – God creates the Earth in six days.
Birth of Adam – God creates Adam and Eve.
Noah’s Ark – The story of Noah and the great flood.
Sarah and Abraham – Sarah gives birth to Isaac.
Parting of the Red Sea – The Children of Israel escape Egypt with God’s help.
Manna from Heaven – God provides manna as bread for the Israelites as they journey through the wilderness.
Moses on Mount Sinai – God gives Moses the Ten Commandments.
Balaam and the Donkey – God makes Balaam’s donkey speak to him to get his attention.
The Walls of Jericho – Joshua leads the Israelites to march around Jericho and the walls fall down.
Samson – God raises Samson as a leader to free the Israelites from the Philistines, using miraculous strength.
David and Goliath – God uses David to kill the giant, Goliath, with one stone and a sling.
Jonah and the Fish – A whale swallows Jonah because he refuses to obey God.
Daniel in the Lions’ Den – Daniel survives being thrown into a lions’ den by King Darius because God protects him and shuts the mouths of the lions.
The book is simply written but very close to the actual scripture passages. The author uses language that is easier for children to understand. In each story, there is a passage of scripture central to the events contained in a box at the center of the page. Several of the stories have foldout full-page illustrations depicting the biblical account. The pictures are well drawn and colorful. The length of each story is short enough to hold the attention of even the youngest toddler and the illustrations contain enough detail to be used in conjunction, for the child who is a visual learner.
MULTI-FAITH APPEAL
This book will appeal to parents that are of Judeo-Christian faiths where tales from the Old Testament are told. The author of the book is Josh Hanft, the president of Congregation Ansche Chesed of New York.
BOTTOM LINE
Miracles of the Bible is scripturally accurate and contains several passages from the Old Testament that have been rewritten into simple language that kids can understand. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I feel it lacks originality. I have seen many books that do the same thing and frankly, this one does not stand out and do it in any new or different way. It is a solid tool to share several of the miraculous events from the Bible with your children, but nothing about it is extra special.
