Lots of fun! “Rocketship Run” by the Laurie Berkner Band (with Susie Lampert and Adam Bernstein) is a little bit of 70’s indie, merged with a classic sense of childhood folk.Â
The CD starts out a little bit more geared toward younger kids of 1-5 and steadily improves as the CD progresses. “Five Days Old” (track 10) Â is GREAT! “Let’s Samba!” could easily be a favorite party song for kids in their early teens. The lyrics are creative, fun, and well-written.Â
SONGS:Â
This CD is jam-packed with 20 tracks: Rocketship Run, Goin on A Hunt (ska), Mouse in My Toolbox, Candy Cane Jane, All Around My Room, ONe More Stop on the Train, Going on a Hunt (blues), Jump and Fly, Pigbasket, Five Days Old, Mr. Bassman (and Pianogirl), Winter Lullaby, Let’s Samba, Going on a Hunt (conga), My Blue Sailboat, Balance Bem, Thunderstorm, Fast and Slow (Rabbit and the Turtle), Going on a Hunt (jig), Farm Song (That’s what I did on the farm) , Nona, Walk Along the River, Goin on a Hunt (hand jive), Fly Me to the Moon
You’ll notice that “Going on a Hunt” is repeated throughout in different styles. Fun!
PACKAGINGÂ
The packaging is eco-friendly and made entirely of post-consumer recycled paper. It is a brightly printed cardboard CD case with two pockets: one to hold the liner notes, and one to hold the CD. It shows a cute “New York” scene from Central Park. The liner notes actually have kid-friendly content. When you open it up it reads “We’re going on a hunt, we’re going on a hunt, we’re looking for the treasure, we’re going on a hunt” (the lyrics of the song “Going on a Hunt” which is repeated throughout the CD in different styles.) followed by “Look for the treasure on every page!” The next four two-page spreads show cute collages of different scenes, and each one has a small hidden treasure chest that the child can look for. Fun! The rest of the liner notes contain the lyrics. There’s more fun, though. Magnifying glasses are scattered across the lyrics, highlighting different words. You can look through the book and look for the words that are highlighted. So your child can look for the highlighted words while listening to the song. Cheesey? Yeah, a bit. But it’s fun.Â
Laurie has taken the green mindset even further and all of the band’s tee-shirts, totes and other merchandise is made of organic cotton. How cool!
ABOUTÂ
Laurie is a former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night and has a long list of musical credits. All four of her previous CDs are best-sellers and Noggin fans will recognize both Laurie and her music.Â
BOTTOM LINE
A lot of fun music, nicely produced, and well tied together. Where the last song ‘Fly me to the moon” comes in all this we have no idea, nor do we know why they decided to end the album with it. We can only guess it’s the rocketship tie-in. But hey, it was nicely done!
