When I first took out the Take With Me Alphabet book my daughter was immediately fascinated by the colorful illustrations, the tote handle, and the chunky zipper.

The Disney Princesses Take-With-Me Alphabet book features the Disney Princesses as teaching tools for the alphabet. It comes with a CD that can be safely zipped up inside the book and has a handle for easy portability.

AGE RANGE

This book is appropriate for a wide age range as toddlers will enjoy looking at the book and listening to the music on the CD. It will expose them to the sounds and sight of the different letters of the alphabet. Older preschool children that are learning their ABCs can use this as an active learning and reinforcement tool.

CONTENT

The pictures in this 35 page board book are colorful and attractive to look at and help teach ABCs using children’s favorite Disney princesses. If you’ve seen one of the Disney movies with Belle, Ariel or other Disney characters you will be familiar with the lush and colorful illustrative style used in this book.

The text itself has a pleasant rhyming pattern: “A is for Ariel who lives beneath the sea. B is for Belle who is sitting down to tea”. Each letter is shown in upper and lowercase, as well as being used in the text.

Ariel and Jasmine both show a bit of skin, as they do in the Disney movies. So if you object to any of the clothes worn in Aladdin or The Little Mermaid, then you may not find this book to be appropriate for your child.

THE CD

The CD contains seven tracks that contain a few versions of the alphabet song and a “read along” for the book. The music and read along are pleasant, well produced and have a “typical Disney” quality.

The only downsides to the CD is that very young children won’t connect the music on the CD to the pages in the book, and the CD itself is housed in a thin paper envelope inside of the book that is an instant attraction to very young children. I would recommend removing the CD from the book until your child is a bit older, otherwise it will become damaged very quickly.

CONSTRUCTION

The pages of this book are “board book” style and coated to prevent ripping and provide some degree of water resistance. The zipper is chunky and durable enough to allow toddlers to play with, which is good since they will find it even more fascinating than the book itself.

The zipper and handle on the book are immediate attention grabbers for any toddler. Once she figured the zipper out she spent another 10 minutes looking at the pictures. Even now, after the novelty has worn off, she will sit and look at independently but she also enjoys having it read to her. She is too young to connect the music and reading on the CD to the pages on the book, but she enjoys both independently of each other.
