Bugalug offers cute hair accessories for girls that include barrettes, headbands, and other items.
The Barrettes
These simple, yet cute, hair barrettes are a metal pinch clip covered on all sides with a pretty patterned grosgrain ribbon. On one side of the inside of the clip, a strip of coated fabric is adhered, providing a “grippy” surface to keep the barrette in place.
The clip works quite easily by simply squeezing the end to open and sliding it into the hair. Once it’s in, it does not slide around and is very difficult to pull out without opening the clip. Great for fine textured hair that’s hard to keep clips in. My daughter has very thick hair and it still works to hold a smaller piece of her hair back out of her face. We also tried it on my niece (under one year) who still has that baby fine hair. It was a little too big for the amount of hair she has, but still gripped and stayed in place.
The headband is made completely of the same high quality grosgrain ribbon in a cute polka dot pattern on a white background (the “Flower Power Dots” pattern). The ends of the band are secured with a plastic toggle piece that has a gel-like texture to help it stay in place. You place the band around the child’s head (under the hair in back for longer hair) and cinch the plastic sizing piece to the desired tightness. It worked very well for my baby niece’s head and stayed in place nicely, with the extra length of ribbon hanging down her back. My daughter is almost five and has both a larger head and a lot of hair, so we had more difficulty getting it to stay put, but I really think it is more of a sizing issue. The concept is a good one and for smaller children, the headband works very well and is a cute accessory. The grosgrain ribbon is not thick or firm enough to really provide a lot of hold if you’re trying to secure hair out of the face, but it does work that way for a little while, until the hair works its way out of the ribbon.
The headband adjusts to fit heads that range in size from infant, to adult (26″). When you first get the headband you might want to check and see if the ends are knotted. It is recommended that you knot the ends to prevent the clip from coming off and posing a choking hazard for younger children, or simply getting lost if you have an older child.
BOTTOM LINE
Overall, I’d say the barrettes are my favorite, but both products are nice hair accessories for little girls.
