It seems like my son outgrows his clothes every three weeks. To make matters worse, his waist is a 2T and his upper body is a 3T. Many places that sell “outfits” sell them as sets, not as mix-and-match options. Or if they’re mix and match they very easily end up mismatched when my husband is in charge of getting the little guy dressed in the morning.
I love these $15-for-three mix and match options from the Children’s Place. Shorts, short sleeve t’s and tanks that come in “little” boys/girls for sizes 6 months through 4T and “big” boys/girls for sizes 4-14. All of the sizes are 3-for-$15.
Since my little guy fits into the “Baby Boy” category, I’ll be talking mostly about the options for little boys.
QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION
The “baby boy” matchables shorts are a lightweight 100% cotton with contrast piping along the side seams. The size tag is “tagless” and is printed on the back of the inside of the shorts, and the care tag is located in the leg where it’s less likely to be irritating. The seams are comfortable and reinforced throughout. The waistband is broad and measures about 1 1/2″ which is fully elasticized. The 24mo (2T) size stretches nicely from 9″ across (when fully relaxed) to 12″ across comfortably. This three inches of stretch gives the child room to grow. These shorts are actually SHORTS with a 10″ outseam and a 3″ inseam on the 24mo size. WONDERFUL. Most little kids shorts seem as if they’re really capri pants. The shorts are unlined, lightweight, moisture wicking and leave a lot of room for your child’s tush and diaper while still allowing freedom of movement and breathability. Nice.
The “baby boy” matchables tanks are made of the same lightweight 100% cotton. The neck and arm openings have contrast rib-knit trim. The neck and arm openings are generous and have a slight stretch that gives them a great comfortable fit that is not loose and that does not threaten to pull your child’s ears off every time you dress or undress him. These shirts feature the same tagless neck area, comfortable well-made seams and the same side tag that the shorts have. On the front of the tanks is a large number that is screenprinted onto the shirt and that has a weathered/distressed look. The numbers vary from shirt to shirt. 33, 90, 63, and 22 seem to be the options for little boy’s shirts.
The “baby boy” teeshirts also share the lightweight 100% cotton fabric, tagless neck, side tag, and soft seams. These shirts are a single color with a smaller screen-print detail on the left breast. The screen print detail is a weathered number that seems to be in the same range as the numbers on the tanks, and underneath the number it reads “ALL-PRO” in a smaller typeface.
AESTHETIC
The aesthetic for the little and big boy line is very sporty with the contrast rib knit and piping, and the athletic logos and numbers. There is a wide variety of color options that you can mix and match for some fun combos. Heathered gray, Nautico (navy blue), Seadive (teal), Racecar (red), White, Sunlite (bright yellow), and Aloeglo (a light neon green). You can go with the layered tee-with-a-tank on top look, or wear the tees and tanks separately. Mix and match the colors for fun combos, or color-coordinate.
The Girl’s lines are flower themed with shirts covered in full flower prints or with flower details on the left breast, and the shorts come with either a flower detail on the left leg or colorful horizontal stripes.
VALUE & OPTIONS
At $15 for three, these cost about $5 per item, or you can pick them up for $6.50 separately. Either way, these clothes are a bargain. They are well made, all cotton, and last a long time.
It’s easy to quickly stock up on fun play clothes for your kids without busting the bank.
Best of all, unlike a lot of “three for” deals, you can mix and match what makes up that three. You can buy three tanks.. Or you can buy a tank, tee, and shorts. Or you can buy three shorts.. You get the idea. My son goes through more teeshirts than shorts, so I picked up three pairs of shorts for him, and nine shirts which were a mix of tanks and tees.
BOTTOM LINE
These mix-and-match “matchables” are a great deal, well made, and 100% cotton. They have the tremendous benefit of being mostly coordinated.. So as long as my husband doesn’t decide to mix red and green, we’re all set for summer play clothes. At least until I have to re-buy everything after that inevitable mid-summer growth spurt.
