The 36 Cube from ThinkFun, Inc. is said to be “possibly the world’s most challenging puzzle yet.” It’s a multi-colored puzzle made up of 36 towers. These towers are in the shape of a colorful cube. The object of the game is to make a perfect cube with only one of each color in each row and column.

This puzzle is addictive once you get started. However, getting started takes a bit because the directions are not particularly thorough. It is definitely a puzzle meant for older children and adults. The 8 year old recommended age may be a bit young unless the child is particularly adept at visualization and putting things together.

That being said, it is a very fun, challenging game for the whole family to participate in. Though it is best used one person at a time, so as not to create distraction for the user. The makers of 36 Cube promise an “aha” moment where the solution becomes evident. We have yet to reach that moment, but we’re having a ball working on it.

This puzzle game can be difficult for kids who become easily frustrated but can provide a teachable moment to deal with such issues. Try it at your own risk,. But if you’ve got a kid or a kid at heart who loves to work puzzles of all kinds, this is a great gift for those folks.

The 36 Cube comes in a box with plastic cover. It is fairly easy to open. Just remove the tape attached to the plastic cover. Then you’re able to pull the cover off of the box and remove the puzzle.
