Evenflo Comfi bottles are cute little angled bottles that come in 6 and 9oz sizes. These bottles are clear with colored rings and a soft grip in five colors: light green, pink, yellow, purple, and blue with matching measurements. They come with a silicone slow-flow nipple, nipple ring, sealing disc, and lid.

We started our daughter off with the Playtex drop in system but quickly realized that it was going to get expensive, so we went looking for an inexpensive bottle that our very picky daughter would like. We tried a few and then came across these cute little angled bottles. The little soft colored grips on the outside that make it easy to hold and very comfy too. They are angled a bit to help with more upright feedings like the Vent Air bottles by Playtex however do not have the openings at the bottom to let air out.

DESIGN

The slight angle of these bottles make semi upright feedings easier and prevent air from getting into the nipple which helps prevent gas and which is great for babies with reflux that need to be fed upright.

EASE OF USE

The measurements make it hard to tell if you have the right amount sometimes because the line goes through the number and they only have the even numbers written on the bottle.

Another issue I have with these bottles is that I went to mix 6 oz of formula in the 6 oz bottle and ended up not having enough room for it all. The lids fit well but they have to be put on just right to line up the two little indentions on the nipple ring. It is very hard to clean out the bottom of the bottle since it is angled. I had to get a special bottle brush and even that isnt working the greatest. the nipple rings do feel and look cheaply made but have not missed a curve when screwing them on yet.

CONSTRUCTION

These bottles are made of a clear polycarbonate with soft colored grips, and colored nipple rings. Polycarbonate is a popular material for baby bottles because it is clear, very strong and easy to clean. I can’t count how many times they have been dropped on our hard wood floor and none are showing signs of weakness. (Editors note: Polycarbonate has the downside of containing Bisphenol A/BPA which has been linked to certain health concerns so it’s generally a good idea to replace these bottles on a semi regular basis as the BPA can start to leech into liquids as the plastic degrades over time.)

These bottles are very skinny and the grips made it easy for my daughter to hold on to early. She can now hold it with one hand and she’s only 10 months old! That’s how skinny these bottles are.

NIPPLES

The Comfi nipple base is a bit wider then most skinny bottles so it was closer to the other style we were using at the time. (You can also use standard nipples and rings with these bottles if you prefer.) Comfi nipples are available in packs of two and come in slow, medium and fast flows to accommodate a variety of needs and ages. The standard nipple included with the bottle is a slow-flow nipple which is recommended for ages 0-3 months. Despite being “slow flow”, the nipple that comes with the bottle does drip out all the time if the liquid is at the right level when on its side, or if you shake it up. Because of this you need to put your finger over the hole when you are shaking it or you will fling formula/milk all over. I don’t like touching the nipple in-between cleanings and feedings so to have to hold the hole closed really bothers me especially when we are out and about and I can’t wash my hands first.

Nipples should be replaced every 3-6 months or if they become scratched, as scratches can cause them to tear and become a choking hazard.

I have never had a nipple flatten out, collapse or invert from suction while she was drinking.

One nice feature of these bottles is that the nipple/nipple ring fit perfectly on Gerber juices.

(editors note: the slow-flow nipple also works well for breastfeeding moms or moms whose babies spit up or can’t handle faster flow nipples although not as good as nipples such as the “Breastflow” nipples which require both compression and suction and that really make the baby work for the milk.)

SIZES

Comfi bottles come in 6 and 9 oz sizes.

STERILIZING & CLEANING

Bottles and nipples should be sterilized before the first use, after which they can be washed in warm soapy water or run through the dishwasher. (Unless your baby has special needs) Sterilizing can easily be done by boiling all parts for 3 minutes or using a sterilizing machine. Evenflo does not recommend sterilizing parts in the microwave.

These bottles are a bit difficult to clean because of the angle and require a special angled bottle brush, and even with the special brush they can be a pain to clean around the angled part of the bottle. Sometimes they can become cloudy with mineral deposits or soap residue which Evenflo recommends removing by boiling them in 4cups water and either 1/4th cup lemon juice or vinegar. Using this method of cleaning when the bottle is first purchased can also remove the “plastic” odor that new bottles have.

One thing to note is that bottles washed in the dishwasher regularly will not respond to this method of cleaning as the residue becomes “baked on”. This does not effect the use of the bottle.

CONCLUSION

I would probably not buy these bottles again because of the leaky nipples, difficulty of cleaning, and the way the caps fit. We stuck with these bottles because my picky daughter accepted them and we are so close to being out of bottles we didn’t want to go out and buy a different brand for such a short period of time. For the money they are decent bottles but I would not get them again if I had to buy new bottles anytime soon. They were what I needed at the time, but next time around I will make sure it spend a bit more and get a better bottle that is easier to clean and cap.
