Umbrella stroller exist for exactly one reason: Portability. In the field of umbrella strollers, this one pretty much takes the cake. It’s the smallest stroller I’ve seen.. Deployed or folded. At first I mistook it for one of those toy strollers you see children pushing around.

The umbrella stroller by Cosco is pretty much the umbrella-est of umbrellas. It embodies the best and worst characteristics of an umbrella stroller, and you will love it and hate it in turn.

The good: Highly portable, very light, collapses to take up very little space, very inexpensive. At 3′ tall, this stroller is short enough to fit easily in a lot of lockers, or even in duffel bags.

The bad: This stroller is SHORT. It is short enought to be uncomfortable for someone who is 5′5″, and is a back breaker for anyone taller. At its highest point, it is 36″ tall (3 feet). Compare this to the already too-short Chicco Caddy umbrella stroller’s 39 1/2″ and you start getting an idea for what you’re in for pushing this around. Unfortunately, this is the compromise of umbrella strollers-they’re compact, therefore they’re short. This stroller also lacks any storage bags or under-seat areas, and is not sturdy or well-balanced enough to hold a diaper bag on its handles.

The conclusion: If ultra-portability is your primary goal, and you plan on taking this stroller on public transportation or airplanes, or into small stores with narrow aisles, or if you need to lug it up flights of stairs- this stroller is the stroller for you. If you’re looking for a slightly more versatile umbrella stroller, you may want to go a few steps up to the Chicco Caddy, or invest in a costlier but much more versatile and not quite so back-breakingly short McLaren.
