I never used to be a germophobe, but now I have two children. One is just a few months old, and the other is a sociable preschooler that can’t resist gnawing on everything in sight including the pen that she just borrowed from her teacher.
Needless to say, the common cold is quite common in our household, and flu season? Ongoing. Now I carry disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and whatever other anti-germ ammunition I can find. Clorox Disinfecting Wipes have become a valuable part of my arsenal and I am sure that their presence in our house contributed to the fact that neither the baby nor my husband came down with the flu this past flu season (which apparently lasts through MAY! Another reason to be thankful for these wipes as they kill the Influenza A2 virus.)
PACKAGING & USE
These wipes come in a large canister of 35 wipes, or in convenient “To Go” foil packs. The canisters have a great “trap door” loading mechanism where you push down on two flaps to unlock them, pull a wipe up through the middle of the flaps, and this locks them back into place and pulls the wipe off along the perforations while keeping the next wipe ready to grab. The lid of the container closes easily over the next wipe and keeps it moist for next time you need to grab a wipe. This whole process works so much better than a lot of other wipes canisters where fingers are pinched, wipes are torn, and needing to re-thread the wipes is a common and dreaded task.
These wipes are slightly larger than the popular brands of wipes targeted for hand/skin use, and are made of a slightly thinner material that is equally as durable and resistant to tearing. You can see the Clorox wipe on the left side of the image to the right. They are slightly textured with a circular weave pattern that seems to help at scrubbing off any dried-on goo, a feature that I find particularly appealing when cleaning off the high chair or garbage can. They wipe down rough and uneven surfaces very well without ripping or tearing. They are very well moistened and can clean a large area with ease. I was able to wipe down the entire surface of my son’s high chair with one of these and did not run out of liquid. The formula does not streak or leave behind residue even when you use them on shiny surfaces or on glass. My only complaint with them is that stuff doesn’t stick to their surface easily, so if you use them to clean up a dusty area you’ll have a clean and disinfected area that has clumps of wet dust still stuck to the surface.
Clorox Disinfecting Wipes are wonderful for wiping down the stroller, cleaning out the diaper pail, wiping down the swings at the park, the restaurant high chair, the outer surface of the toilet, or the grocery cart. They are appropriate for any hard non-porous surface , the only thing that these wipes really shouldn’t be used on is humans.
VALUE
These wipes work out to about 11 cents per wipe, and are well worth the cost.
SCENTS
These wipes come in Lemon, Lavender and Fresh scents. All of these scents are perfumey “household cleaning product” renditions and the fresh scent smells a bit more like candy than anything else. But none of the scents are overpowering or headache inducing, and they are all rather pleasant. These wipes do not contain bleach/chlorine or alcohol so there is no heavy chemical smell.
HOW EFFECTIVE
Studies quoted by Clorox show that these wipes are effective against common bacteria such as Staphylococcus (Staph.), Salmonella, and E.coli. They also kill 99.9% of germs including viruses that cause colds and flu (Rhinovirus and Influenza A2)
As I mentioned before, these wipes are great for cleaning off dried-on goo. They are not so great for cleaning dusty surfaces.
