Wall stickers are one of the easiest ways to decorate your child’s room. They immediately turn a bland white wall into something fun and fanciful.

Nouvelles is known for their artsy prints, calendars, and the belief that “The image alone is not enough; why not own it and make it part of the décor?” With their fun fanciful “Home stickers” line they take the art to the walls, specifically the walls of your child’s bedroom.

SIZE

From the images that I saw on the web, I was expecting smaller stickers. These stickers are HUGE. For example, the round body of the red critter at the bottom is larger than a DVD. The stickers ship flat instead of rolled which minimizes creases, and they come on two identical sheets that measure 19″ across by 27″ tall.

AESTHETIC

These wall stickers are bright, colorful and have a playfully modern look. Planets, space ships, paint splatters and speech bubbles. Space monsters not your thing? Nouvelles currently has 25 options under the “Children’s Room” category that include pirates, zoo animals, cars, an animal alphabet, planets, fanciful underwater themes, graceful birds, butterflies and other art.

These stickers are printed on an opaque paper, rather than the thin semi-transparent material that is popular with most brands of wall stickers. This means you can put them on walls of any color without worrying about the color of the wall showing through and discoloring parts of the stickers.

THE STICKERS

You get two copies of each sticker, since there are two sticker sheets.

As you can see in the image to the right (which I apologize for, my “good” camera is in the shop, and so I’m making do with a little point and shoot that I can’t quite get used to..) are 8 different styles of “monster” stickers in varying sizes and designs.

There are five different planet stickers that range in size from a DVD to about 2″ in diameter. They vary from “shaded” to a saturn-like planet with a ring around it, to an Earthlike planet, and one with polka dots.

There are two spaceship stickers, one that is medium sized, and the other that is larger than a DVD. The larger one has an alien inside.

There are two different styles of “Speech bubble” stickers.  The one that reads “WAOU!!!” is a smooth-edged classic cartoon speech bubble, and “AAAHH!!” is a jaggedy edged shrieky speech bubble.

There are three “paint splatter” stickers, two of which come with an additional “dot” splatter sticker.

Altogether there are 22 stickers (counting the “dots” for the splatter) on each sheet for a total of 44 stickers.

EASE OF APPLICATION & REMOVAL

Peel. Stick. It’s best if you stick these to a surface that is free of extreme dirt or loose paint, but these stickers are really quite forgiving about what you stick them to.

The stickers are “low tack” which means that they’re easy to remove and not likely to damage surfaces or leave a sticky residue. Before sticking them to something that might be delicate, consider trimming off a corner of the sticker background sheet and sticking it to an unobtrusive surface for a few days before using these stickers.

The stickers are a bit TOO easy to remove, and my toddler has destroyed a few of them.

QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION

The paper used in these stickers is a very heavy (almost “cardstock) paper that is opaque and that has a medium gloss. The inks resist fading decently even in direct bright sunlight, and don’t run if you get them wet. (Although if the sticker isn’t firmly attached to the wall, the liquid can get behind the sticker and make it fall off of the wall.) The stickers are very brightly colored and the detail is good even close up.

The stickers stick very well to a variety of surfaces, and are not prone to peeling or curling.

One very nice thing about these stickers is that they are mistake-proof. Most wall stickers are made of a very thin semi-transparent material that makes it easy to crease or leave bubbles. The rigid cardstock of these wall stickers make it very easy to put them up on your walls without worrying about them applying unevenly or looking bad.

“Cute Monsters” is the creation of artist Céline HENO, a French artist known for her whimsical creations.

SAFETY

These wall stickers make a great decoration for children over three that understand that they are not to be peeled off, and that know not to put things in their mouth.  I would hesitate to use them in the room of a younger child, as they are easier to peel off than many other wall stickers.

The stick-on peel-off design offers parents a chemically safe way to redecorate their child’s room without stripping the paint and re-painting. Less exposure to paint fumes, paint dust and volatile organic compounds.. Good stuff.

BOTTOM LINE

Home Stickers by Nouvelles Images are a high quality product that is well-made and that offers quite a few endearing designs by different artists.
