Got a teenage daughter? Need to keep tabs on her schedule or even just help her out with setting one up? This calendar from “More Time Moms” is one of the best teen girl calendars that I’ve seen for a number of reasons.
This calendar borrows a lot from the “Agenda” that has become ubiquitous in high schools, and which teens really gravitate to. But rather than being a backpack or locker item, this calendar is meant to hang on the wall, and it can serve as a great way for your girl and you to stay in communication about important events.
UNIQUE FEATURES
Rather than using the top page of every month to display a huge picture of cute kittens or the current trendy teen rock star, this calendar spreads each month across two over-sized pages for a total calendar area of 15″ wide by 22″ tall. Each calendar square is a little over 2″ wide by 3″ tall. Huge enough to write down chore lists as well as any plans for that day. Nice!
Each month also features information unique to that month: October has instructions for making “Spooky hands” for Halloween party favors. November has a recipe for Berry Gingerbread pancakes. February offers a list of boredom busters that won’t break the bank. June has a big place to write down your summer plans. Also included for each month is an area to write down your regular chores, a small calendar of the previous and next months, a reminder to schedule time for important things: yourself, exercise, fresh air, reading, hobbies, family, friends, relatives, community, etc. Major holidays are noted including Rosh Hashanah, Christmas, and a reminder that the 2010 Girlfriends’ Lifeline calendar will go on sale during the summer of 2009…
The last page of the calendar has a big area for writing down important names, telephone and cellphone numbers, your class and study routine, and cool websites. THEN on top of that, the rear cover of the calendar contains a full 2010 month by month calendar (So that you can look at the year ahead), AND a January 2010 calendar so that you can start recording important events for the next year. At the bottom of the cover is a big sturdy pocket that is 4″ tall and 15″ wide so that you can easily store your movie tickets, your mementos, photographs, or whatever is important.
STICKERS/EMBELLISHMENTS
As with all More Time Moms calendars, this calendar comes with a ton of great stickers to use to call out important things on your calendar. The “Girlfriends’ Lifeline” calendar comes with 260 stickers that include: 20 “Important” stickers, 15 “Special Day” stickers, 5 “School Dance” stickers, 20 “Birthday” stickers, 22 “No School” stickers, 11 stickers that spell out “SPRING BREAK” one letter at a time, fun for marking off all the days of your spring break in a creative way. 10 “Assignment” stickers, 8 “Doctor/Dentist” stickers, 5 “School Event” stickers, 2 “School’s Out!” stickers, 2 “Back to School” stickers, 20 “Activity” stickers, 20 “Game” stickers with a soccer ball motif, 10 “Party” stickers, 10 “Night Out” stickers, 20 “Exam” stickers, 10 “Movies” stickers, 10 “Date Night” stickers, 10 “Hanging Out” stickers, 10 “Hair Appointment” stickers, and 20 “Work” stickers. The stickers are all brightly colored, and measure a little bit over a half inch square.
STYLE & ARTWORK
This calendar contains a variety of different styles and illustrations. The cover has illustrations showing multi-ethnic teenage girls just hanging out and having fun. Inside there is a variety of “clip-art” style line illustrations, black and white photographs of girls having fun, and more illustrations similar to those on the cover. The photographs and illustrations throughout are black and white, and the calendar colors are muted tones of teal, gold, and maroon. The overall style is great. Very trendy and very easy to use. It’s awesome seeing the different girls doing fun things, and not only that but you get to read more about the girls that were featured, and throughout the Calendar More Time Moms invites you to send in YOUR snapshots so that you can become a calendar girl. How fun! And by “calendar girl” we don’t mean the pin-up calendars. These girls are having a blast just being teenagers and engaging in wholesome activities. Nice.
QUALITY & CONSTRUCTION
This calendar is made of lightweight but durable materials. It is spiral bound with a white plastic spiral, The two covers are made of brightly printed thin glossy cardboard, and the pages themselves are made of a medium weight matte paper that is great for writing on and that does not seem to allow most pens to bleed through.
BOTTOM LINE
This calendar is great for anyone with teenage or pre-teen girls. I can see girls as young as 10 really enjoying this calendar. It has obviously been designed by moms, as it is fun but it also focuses on the normal every-day elements that a responsible teenage girl should have incorporated into her life.
